JARA Institute: Molecular Neuroscience and Neuroimaging

Developments in molecular neuroscience, including mathematical modeling and simulation and imaging techniques, promise new insights into neurological and psychiatric diseases across the lifespan.

The JARA Institute "Molecular Neuroscience and Neuroimaging" (JARA-BRAIN Institute [JBI] 2) is a joint institute of RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich within the Jülich Aachen Research Alliance (JARA). On the Jülich side, it is a sub-institute of the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine, and on the Aachen side, it is an institute of the Medical Faculty without tasks in patient care. The aim of the institute is the further development of molecular brain research, including mathematical models and neuroimaging to improve the understanding of neurological and psychiatric diseases as a first step of translation.

The JARA-BRAIN Institute (JBI) 2 is managed in Aachen and in Forschungszentrum Jülich by the same board of directors, which currently consists of the JARA professors:
