Jülich as an Employer

Forschungszentrum Jülich is one of the large research centres in Europe focusing on the fields of energy & environment and information technology & brain research. We lay the foundation for key technologies of tomorrow and work on viable solutions for complex questions facing society through interdisciplinary research.

Our greatest asset: our employees

Only with excellent employees can our research be successful. Their motivation and creativity is our greatest asset. It is therefore one of our central concerns that they are given the chance to fulfil their potential: by providing an excellent infrastructure, flexible working hours, teleworking, specific further training options, networking opportunities, and support in combining family and career. We want to deliver real equal opportunities for both women and men.

Leadership at Forschungszentrum Jülich

People who work in a research institution are characterized by a thirst for knowledge, critical thinking, an affinity for rational argumentation, and creativity. These characteristics are our most important resource, but simultaneously pose the biggest challenge for management. Leadership is not an end in itself; it is a means to good teamwork, which in turn is essential for corporate success. To achieve this goal, we are working to promote dialogue and mutual understanding: only by working hand in hand to bring numerous individual competencies together in a constructive exchange, and thereby encouraging productive interplay, will we be successful as a research centre.  Flyer Leadership Model (PDF, 2 MB)

Support for early-career scientists

We place particular emphasis on profiled support for our early-career scientists, working closely with partner universities, for example in supervising doctoral researchers (PhD students). We want to attract the brightest minds to Jülich, not only from Germany, but from all over the world. We appreciate that Jülich is among the most popular locations for Humboldt fellows. One of the cornerstones of Forschungszentrum Jülich is our international campus: postdocs from more than 35 countries work here. We expressly foster an exchange of ideas and cooperations and we enable our early-career scientists to develop professionally during research stays at partner institutions in Germany and abroad. The Career Center & Postdoc Office supports our early career researchers in their professional development with coaching and training.

Jülich as a vocational training centre

Forschungszentrum Jülich is one of the training centres with the largest number of trainees in the region. We have been providing vocational training for young men and women for more than 50 years, currently in 26 skilled occupations and 6 dual-study programmes. Our qualified vocational training is a solid basis for a successful career.

Encouraging girls’ and boys’ interest in science

The educational programme of our JuLab Schools Laboratory is aimed at showing girls and boys that science and technology are fun and at encouraging girls in particular to consider a career in science or take up a technical profession.
