Research Interests

The world-wide need for novel electrodes and electrolytes for energy supply and storage systems makes it inevitable to understand the physical and chemical properties of complex materials on the atomistic level. Our research focuses on the nanometer scale characterization of solid state electrodes and their interface to the electrolyte.

We are particularly interested in migration processes on the nm scale and their relation to solid state phenomena such as electronic structures, defect mobility, interface structures and degradation, along with magnetic properties. For this purpose we employ scanning probe microscopy methods in UHV as well as in electrochemical environments to study diffusion phenomena ex-situ as well as in operando.
