Magnetic particle nanorheology

Magnetic particle nanorheology
The investigation of the rheological properties of soft matter in small dimensions is possible by the employment of nanoscopic magnetic probes. We use the frequency-dependent complex susceptibility of monodispersed, magnetically blocked single-domain particles to extract viscoelastic properties of complex fluids on the length scale of the particle dimensions. The method allows the experimental verification of predictions from scaling theory on the diffusion of nanoparticles and on the interactions between particles and matrix in polymer solutions, dynamic networks, and gels.
