Polymer boosting effect in microemulsions

Boosting effect
We found that special amphiphilic block copolymers dramatically increase the efficiency of surfactants by up to one order of magnitude. The efficiency of a surfactant is given by the maximum amount of water and oil, it can emulsify. This finding is highly interesting for fundamental research as well as applications. In our chemistry lab we developed the polymer which is responsible for the boosting effect. Additionally, we synthesize special deuterium labeled surfactants which are necessary to study the microemulsions by SANS.
