Near wall dynamics of colloidal suspensions
If colloidal particles suspended in a quiescent solvent approach a hard wall, the so called viscous drag effect causes the particles mobility to decrease and to become ansiotropic. Analysing the time dependence of the scattered intensity from an evanescent wave by an ensemble of particles it is possible to measure the near wall diffusivity of these particles. With a novel instrumental design it is possible to distinguish between the particle mobility parallel and normal to the wall. The translational dynamics of interacting spherical particles and the orientational dynamics of rod-like particles are currently investigated.
