Holistic valorization of algal biomass

To holistically valorize biomass from green microalgae on an industrial level, new technologies and thorough understanding of the biomass composition are needed. Therefore, effective fractionation methods will be tested and newly developed, to obtain all algae biomass fractions with minimal degradation. In addition to fractionating the protein-, lipid- and carbohydrate-fractions, further extracellular, value-generating components will be characterized (e.g. composition and application-targeted properties) and extraction methods will be established, to possibly enhance the economic potential of the whole process – from cultivation to valorization.
