HDF Cloud

Starting early 2019, JSC offers a Cloud computing platform for users with a demand for more complex use cases, such as services based on data residing in the HPC file systems. The resources have been procured as part of the Helmholtz Data Federation (HDF) activities, thus the name HDF Cloud.

The HDF Cloud at JSC comprises OpenStack compute, network, and volume services as well as an integration with the DATA file system also available on the HPC systems.

Mailing list

If you do not want to miss any important update or announcement regarding the cloud resources, please subscribe to the HDF Cloud mailing list by sending an email to This is a low traffic list.

Should you need support with any of the offerings or have questions, please contact the data services support team at

When publishing results that have been facilitated by using HDF Cloud, you must cite HDF Cloud like the following:

The authors gratefully acknowledge the Helmholtz Data Federation (HDF) for funding this work by providing services and computing time on the HDF Cloud cluster at the Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC).

First steps

The following documents describe how to access the HDF Cloud and the first steps required to make use of it. For those users, who want to just access the cloud, the web interface of the Cloud is available at Relevant topics for using the cloud are:
