International Advisory Services
International Advisory Services is part of Personnel Management (P-B) at Personnel. It provides advice and support for all Forschungszentrum Jülich employees who come from abroad (students, PhD candidates, scholarship holders, visiting scientists, professors) and their families on legal matters concerning non-nationals and German social legislation.
Service
Matters concerning the right of residence:
- Registration of new employees’ residence with the town of Jülich and deregistration at end of stay
- Weekly on-site consultations with representatives of the Düren Foreigners’ Registration Office at
Forschungszentrum Jülich for residence permit applications and other formalities within its area of responsibility
This service is available to employees who live in the Jülich–Düren region. Employees who take up residence elsewhere (e.g. in Aachen, Düsseldorf, or Cologne) will be given the necessary information on the registration process.
Matters concerning social legislation:
- Support in choosing and applying for appropriate health insurance (no insurance brokerage)
- Advice and information on the payment of contributions to the German social security system: pension contributions, supplementary insurance (e.g. VBL), necessity of taking out liability insurance
- Applications for benefits for families (e.g. child benefit, parental allowance, allowance for stay-at-home parents
- Advice and support in applying for unemployment benefits
- Applications for pension refunds
Matters concerning tax law:
- Up-to-date information on how to apply for a tax identification number and how to select a tax category
- Information on double taxation agreements
- Information on tax refunds
Other matters:
- Requests for criminal record certificates
- Requests for work permits for students from non-EU countries and the new EU member states Bulgaria, Croatia, and Romania
Up-to-date information on:
- German language courses at Forschungszentrum Jülich and in the Jülich area
- Using a foreign driving licence in Germany
- Opening a bank account
- Applying for school places for children of compulsory school age
- Various brochures and programmes

Brochure "Welcome to Germany" The brochure, drawn up by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees on behalf of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, comprises 130 pages containing large amounts of tips making everyday life easier. It also contains a considerable number of (Internet) addresses on where to find advice and further links. |
