Second Helmholtz Day in Jülich’s Schools Laboratory

Jülich, 19 November 2013 – The JuLab Schools Laboratory of Forschungszentrum Jülich celebrated the second ever ‘Helmholtz Day’ today in commemoration of the man who gave his name to the Helmholtz Association. Around 50 secondary school students from Anne Frank Gesamtschule in Düren-Mariaweiler and Realschule Kreuzau came to JuLab to conduct experiments on superconductivity and test out various laboratory methods. In addition, they had the chance to learn about the research work of Hermann von Helmholtz (1821–1894), a leading 19th century scientist and one of the last true polymaths.
