Microscopic Theory of Non-equilibrium Time-dependent Electronic Transport

Microscopic theory of nonequilibrium steady-state time-dependent electronic transport in two-probe geometry is derived using the formalism of Greens functions in linear-response regime at Hartree-Fock level, including time-inhomogeneous contributions related to the response of the central region to the external drive. The theory is suitable for use with density functional theory. The role of single-particle basis set is examined next, and shown that in time-dependent nonequilibrium electronic transport nonorthogonality plays a nontrivial role already at Hartree level, demonstrated by an example, in contradistinction to the time-independent case.
