Advertising division: INM-1 - Structural and Functional Organisation of the Brain

The Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine adresses the organization of the human brain at its various spatial and temporal scales. The subinstitute "Structural and Functional Organization of the Brain" (INM-1) is developing a high-resolution 3D model of the human brain that takes into account cytoarchitecture, connectivity, molecular organization, as well as genetic and functional measurements. To cope with the tremendous complexity of the brain and make neuroscientific data publicly accessible, the "Big Data Analytics" department develops machine learning algorithms and software components to analyze extremely large amounts of image data on High Performance Computing systems, and deliver them to users through cloud-based infrastructures. We are an important partner in the European Commission`s Future and Emerging Technologies flagship Project "Human Brain Project (HBP)", which aims to provide an innovative, web-accessible research infrastructure for the neurosciences, and works closely with neuroscientists, data analysts, software architects and high performance computing experts in different research institutions in Europe.

Full Stack Web Developer

Your Job:

  • Design and implementation of rich web applications for interacting with neuroscience data, such as displaying and annotating 2D and 3D image data, analysis dashboards, and search engines
  • Development of backend services for interactive analysis of neuroscience data
  • Contribute to the further specification and planning of our IT platforms
  • Support our teams in all aspects of modern software development: testing, continuous integration, DevOps, documentation and user support
  • Technical presentation of our technology platform at meetings and conferences
  • Occasional travels within Europe in the framework of scientific cooperations

Your Profile:

  • University degree in computer science, mathematics or a comparable field of study
  • Expertise in the development of service-based software frameworks and REST APIs
  • Relevant experience with web-based environments, ideally a good knowledge of modern javascript/typescript frameworks such as Angular, React or Vue, as well as experience in HTML / CSS
  • Relevant experience in developing backend services using server side languages such as Python, Java and NodeJS
  • An interest in working in interdisciplinary, international teams
  • A passion for open-source software, agile software development, and the web development community
  • Fluent English to work in an international environment
