Student Research Assistant: Programming tools for parallel computing

The Performance Analysis Group in Jülich is developing programming tools for parallel computers together with international partners. For our team of research staff, we are seeking a highly qualified and motivated

Student Research Assistant

The position offers:

  • Research and development in the area of programming tools for parallel computing
  • Experience in software engineering
  • Working in an international team
  • Wide range of tasks such as:

    • testing and hardening of a code base of Scalasca, Score-P or Cube and their components;
    • preparing various prototypes for release-ready state;
    • development various Qt based Cube plugins, providing advanced visualizations of the performance data;
    • design and implementation of a parser for the polymorphic XML data structures;
    • development of a high performance code using technologies like OpenCL, OpenMP and similar.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline
  • Programming practice in C/C++
  • Experience with Qt library
  • Familiarity with UNIX-like system environments
  • Good command of English
  • High motivation and the ability to work effectively with others

Additional qualifications:

  • Knowledge of parallel programming
  • Knowledge of UX/GUI development

The work location is Jülich Supercomputing Centre at Forschungszentrum Jülich, Wilhelm-Johnen-Straße, 52428 Jülich.

This position aims at the preparation of a bachelor or master thesis and is not suitable for an internship. In order to qualify, you must be a student of a German university. The number of hours per week is negotiable.
